Recognition and registration of credits (ECTS)
… from a higher education institution, including practical training
After completing a stay abroad as a student at a university or higher education institution, you must submit an original transcript of records or similar from your host institution to the section for student affairs at your place of study. Activities listed on the transcript that match the original learning agreement will then be confirmed, and they will replace the previously agreed activities and credits for VID’s programme of study.
If your practical training is part of the academic programme at the educational institution at which you are an exchange student, the host institution will recognize the period of practical training in accordance with its academic criteria. VID will replace the practical training with the number of credits that were previously agreed in your learning agreement in the same way as when you submit course transcripts from the host institution.
Please note that credits awarded by an institution abroad will not appear on a VID transcript, even though they replace courses and credits from VID. You must therefore keep the original documentation/transcript from the institution abroad together with the transcript and diploma from VID.
… for practical training that has not been taken as part of a programme of study at an institution abroad
If you carry out practical training abroad, for example at an NGO, a hospital, or the like, and VID has academic responsibility and awards you credits, during this period, you must sit the examinations/satisfy the coursework requirements as described in the practical training guidelines for your VID study programme.
VID’s contact teacher/study supervisor and your local supervisor will jointly evaluate the performance of your practical training. If this is assessed as satisfactory, and you have completed all assignments/coursework requirements in accordance with the guidelines for practical training, you will be awarded the credits set for practical training in your programme of study in the same way as if this had been carried out in Norway.
Please note that you will not be given an exemption in any subjects, but your Diploma Supplement will show that you have completed a period of practical training abroad.
Have you received an Erasmus+ grant?
If you have been an Erasmus+ student when abroad, you must ensure that you have confirmation of the period you were abroad. In addition to a transcript or similar, the host institution must confirm that you were present from and until the start and end dates stipulated in your learning agreement. If the transcript includes the start and end dates, you do not need extra confirmation. The size of your grant will be calculated based on the number of days of study abroad for which you can submit confirmation.
At the end of the period spent abroad as an Erasmus+ student, the European Commission will also send you an email with a link to an online questionnaire that you must fill in before the remainder of the grant is disbursed.

Follow-up going forward?
Did you experience anything unpleasant, unexpected, or dramatic during your period abroad? If so, you should consider submitting a discrepancy note if you feel this was of such a serious nature that a review is necessary of VID’s procedures or VID’s relationship with the partner institution, supervisors, or other partners you have been in contact with when abroad. You can also discuss such matters with your supervisor in Norway and/or the welfare service via the chaplain or deacon at VID.
