The history of Høgskolen Diakonova
Høgskolen Diakonova was founded in 1916 in Rosenborg in Oslo and was called the Parish Sister Home until 2005. The school was owned by the Diakonova Foundation, which was an independent, self-owned diaconal institution within the Church of Norway.
At Høyskolen Diakonova, a nursing education program was established that specifically focused on home-based nursing care. Through the parish sisters, the goal was to offer home nursing care to all homes in Norway, which later laid the foundation for the municipal home nursing care.
From the very beginning, the university college has been an integrated part of the diaconal work of the Church of Norway, and this principle is still fundamental to the school's activities. A central focus of the care work has always been to function as a pioneer in society, by identifying unmet needs and current challenges in the health field.
