Privacy protection and GDPR

Whether you are an applicant, student or employee, VID Specialized University will process your personal information properly and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

This page contains various privacy policies and guidelines for managing personal data at VID. The privacy policies describe how VID manages personal data and provide information about:

  • the types of personal data processed
  • how it is processed
  • who is responsible for the processing
  • your rights to access, rectification and erasure,
  • whom to contact if you have any questions about your personal data.

What is considered personal data?

Personal data is defined as any data, information and assessment that can be linked to you as an individual. The factor that determines whether data is regarded as personal data is whether it can identify a specific person. Examples of such data include names, addresses, photos, videos, telephone numbers, e-mail addresses, IP addresses and national identity numbers.

Why and how does VID process personal data?

VID’s research and pedagogic activity makes it necessary for the institution to process personal data about employees, students, applicants, external partners and participants in various activities for which VID is responsible.

VID acts in accordance with a set of rules for the processing of personal data that are based on some basic principles in the Council of Europe Convention, OECD guidelines, and the EU Privacy Directive/General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that came into force in 2018.

The fundamental aim of these principles is to strengthen the privacy protection rights of individuals and reinforce institutions’ duty to process data in a responsible manner. The objective of the statutory framework is to protect the individual’s right to control and co-determine how VID manages personal data.
