The course gives a thorough introduction into philosophy of science within the humanities and social sciences, including theology and religous studies.

The course gives a thorough introduction into philosophy of science within the humanities and social sciences, including theology and religous studies.

The course has the following main focus areas:

  • Historical developments in Philosophy of Science within the humanities and social sciences.
  • Hermeneutical concerns within the humanities and social sciences.
  • The transition from positivism to postmodernism within Philosophy of Science, and the effect of this on the humanities and social sciences.
  • The particular contribution of feminist epistemology to philosophy of science.
  • Theology and religious studies as academic disciplines in relation to contemporary trends within Philosophy of Science, and in relation to one another.
  • Programme profile: hermeneutical concerns reflecting the current interpretive context of the global mission of the church, e.g. postcolonial perspectives.

Time and place

Autumn semester 2024: VID Stavanger, 4-6 November

Teaching and compulsory activities

The course is offered as an intensive course week with with 3 days of lectures and seminars. Students are required to submit both pre-coursework and post-coursework.
