Academic profile
Zubia is currently working as a researcher at the Centre for Intercultural Communication (SIK), at VID Specialized University in Stavanger (Norway). Here she works on issues related to refugee integration policies, refugee labour market integration, gendered migration processes, diversity and inclusion among others. Her research interests are primarily in asylum systems, bordering practices, and state violence towards migrants, as well as issues related to migrant inclusion/exclusion, discrimination, and gender-related issues in migration contexts. Her PhD thesis investigated the experiences of women seeking asylum in Norway while living in asylum centres and after resettlement in a municipality. Before working on my PhD, she has lived, worked, and conducted fieldwork in Uganda, Sudan, Germany and Norway focusing on issues related to female genital circumcision, child marriage, women’s empowerment and refugee camps in Africa.
