The COST action is "Advancing social inclusion through technology and empowerment (a-STEP)" is financed by COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) for 2020 - 2024. Action chairs are Dr Geraldine Leader, National University of Ireland Galway and Dr Zeynep Sahin Timar, Karadeniz Technical University Turkey.

The a-STEP aims to build an interdisciplinary, intersectoral pan EU and beyond the network to enhance social inclusion and empowerment of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Intellectual Disability. The aim will be achieved by:

  • Evaluating the development of novel Assistive Technology by providing an interdisciplinary and intersectoral collaboration between all stakeholders using a translational approach to establish standardized practice guidelines for the design, development, and deployment of Assistive Technology.
  • Creating knowledge by providing a database of current Assistive Technology technologies and their match to employment and educational contexts for users with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Intellectual Disability.
  • Promoting the adoption of evidence-based guidelines concerning the use of AT across settings and populations and propagating the use of inclusive design and rigorous research approaches ( more information is accessible at Action CA19104 - COST.)
