When to apply
Admission is once a year:
- The application deadline is February 1st
It is not possible to apply after the deadline February 1, 2019. The studies start in August 2019.
Checklist for applicants
Do you have the required academic background for the programme you want to apply to?
Only applicants who meet the admission requirements are qualified. If you are not qualified your application will be rejected. Admission requirements are posted online under the respective study program.
Documentation of education
Transcript of records and diploma (Bachelor's diploma) from your university.
We accept official copies online, but student copies are not accepted. All copies must be a certified copy. The documents should be officially translated, and a copy of the documents in the original language should also be provided.
Diploma/Certificate/transcript from Higher Secondary School as specified on the GSU-list. This document does not need to be translated.
In order to be eligible for master's programmes at VID Specialized University, you need to document a bachelor's degree of minimum three years. Depending on where you completed upper secondary education, you may be required to have more than three years of university education. Please check the above mentioned GSU-list from the Norwegian Higher Education Entrance Qualification for the requirements for each country.
Can you document your financial ability?
Please note that a study option in itself does not provide a Norwegian study permit for applicants outside EU/EEA. After admission, you must apply for a student residence permit in Norway.
Applicants from outside the EU/EEA area must therefore document that they can finance their stay in Norway. The fee is subject to change, please confer with UDI’s websites for the exact amount at any time). International students must also calculate additional expenses for tuition- and semester fees, literature and housing.

Do you meet our English language requirements?
Applicants whose native language is not English must document their English language proficiency either by TOEFL or IELTS test results. In some circumstances, we will accept test results from other methods of examination.
Applicants from English-speaking Africa or applicants with a degree taught in English from India, Pakistan or the Middle East are not automatically exempt from submitting an English language test.
TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language with a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based test (PBT) or score of 80 on the internet-based test (IBT). Official test report forms must be sent directly to VID Specialized University from ETS. The TOEFL code number is B464. Please upload a copy of your result, and make sure that the results are also sent directly from ETS.
IELTS - International English Language Testing System (academic) test with a minimum overall score of 6.0. Please upload the official copy of your test results. We will verify your test results online.
Please note that TOEFL/IELTS tests are only considered valid for 2 years after the test date.
Do you have all the required documentation?
In addition to the documents mentioned above
- A filled paper-based application.
- The pages of your passport showing your photo, your full name, your date of birth and your nationality.
- If applicable, documentation of change of name (for example marriage certificate).
We only accept documents that are uploaded in your online application. If you send us documents by email or through regular mail only, your application will not be considered.
Applications lacking necessary documentation will not be processed, and documents will not be returned or saved by VID. Students who are admitted to VID Specialized University must bring with them all the original documents to Norway.
VID may require admitted students to present all original certificates, diplomas, transcripts upon arrival. Students failing to present all relevant original documents upon request may be denied admission or later told to leave the university, even after arriving in Norway.
- You should only submit the documents requested. Submitted documents that are not requested will not be taken into consideration.
- All documents should be clear and legible.
- Documents consisting of several pages must be scanned together into one document.
- Make sure that the entire document, including the reverse side, is included in the scan.
