Who may borrow?

The VID library primarily provides services to the students and faculty of our university college. Students from other institutions may also use our library, provided they present a valid student ID card. External patrons in Bergen and Stavanger may borrow materials from parts of our collections.

Library card and patron ID number

Students at VID use their student ID card as a library card. The patron ID number and barcode can be found on the card. On campus, you can use the student ID app. Students from other institutions must bring and activate student ID cards from their own institution.

In Oslo external patrons may activate their own library cards or get a library card from VID by presenting valid identification.

Borrowing materials

Our libraries are self-service. Search for the materials you want in Oria, pick up the books from the shelf and register your loans at the self-service machine. Ask for help if you are unfamiliar with our library or need help with searching or finding materials and registering loans.

Special loans cannot be checked out using the self-service machine, but must be registered at the circulation desk.

Loan periods

Books - 2 weeks or 4 weeks
Journals and films - 1 week
Day loans - return by the end of the day

Returning loans

Books may be returned at the circulation desk or at the drop boxes located on the various campuses:

Campus Bergen

There is a drop box in the hall right outside the library, by the group rooms. After 3:15 pm and on weekends you must use your student ID card to access the building.

Campus Stavanger

There is a drop box at the circulation desk in the library and another outside the library entrance.

Campus Oslo

The library has a return slot in the wall of the library. Your access card must be used to enter the building from 06:00-7:00 and 17:00-24:00, and at weekends.

Borrowing of technical equipment

The library manages lending of audio recording equipment. Borrowing of recorders is reserved for master students and employees at VID, including Ph. D. graduates. Alternatively, the Nettskjema dictaphone app can be used.

The library also manages lending of transcription foot pedals. These are reserved for Ph.D. students and staff, however, a student or research assistant can also borrow a pedal if he/she/they are referred by the project leader. Details for the foot pedal: Olympus RS31H USB Foot Pedal with 4 pedals.

Contact the library on your campus to borrow a recorder or foot pedal, preferably some time in advance of when you need to use it, for the library to be able to procure the equipment in time. The equipment must be returned on the same campus where it was borrowed.

Recorders and pedals can be borrowed for 4 weeks at a time. A loan can be renewed, as long as there is no waiting list. If the equipment is damaged or not returned to the library, a compensation claim of NOK. 1200 will be issued.

Please note! All audio files must be deleted from the recorder prior to returning it to the library.
