Harald Askeland, Academic Director, held a presentation about value-based leadership as organisational development:
- The opening of the Centre for Value-Based Leadership and Innovation is an occasion to reflect on the development of value-based leadership as an academic programme and research area. But it also inspires us to focus on an area that has not been widely dealt with: the relationship between values, value-conscious leadership and organisational development. For leaders, this is about balancing the need for stability and good operational practice against the need to constantly develop the organisation’s business to ensure long-term survival.
Beate Jelstad Løvaas held a presentation on the question of whether leadership of volunteers could provide lessons for business managers.
Further presentations included those by Tone Lindheim on leadership in multicultural workplaces and Marta Struminska-Kutra on social innovation in development and cooperation.
A centre for further education
- Our academic community has special competence in value-based leadership and innovation. This makes the centre visible and accessible to practitioners. We welcome commissioned assignments and cooperation with organisations. This will give rise to synergies and mutual learning and development, says Stephen Sirris, director of the centre.
The Centre for Value-Based Leadership and Innovation undertakes assignments on commission for further education, research, training courses and guidance in the areas of leadership, organisational development and social innovation.
The centre has high competence in the area of practice-related leadership research and leadership training, with a focus on value development and organisational development, social innovation and cross-sectoral partnership, guidance on ethical reflection, conflict resolution and volunteerism.
This gives VID a profile and position as a supplier of training programmes to church and diaconal enterprises, as well as public and non-profit health, care and welfare services. In addition, the centre participates in applications for research projects and commissioned projects. The centre is part of the Faculty of Theology, Diaconia and Leadership Studies.
The Centre for Value-Based Leadership and Innovation shall help organisations fulfil their social remit and achieve their objectives through a clear values base, ability to innovate and organisational development. Target groups include public, private and non-profit organisations. The centre should serve as a knowledge centre linked to practice-related leadership research and leadership training.
