With support from the HK-dir project Sustainable Student Mobility in Nursing Education, as well as faculty funding, international coordinator at VID, Annabel Hamre, and Head of Department Kari-Anne Hoel traveled to Jönköping University (JU) in Sweden. The purpose of the visit was to establish a reciprocal collaboration on sustainable mobility for both students and staff.

Jönköping is an attractive university city that combines historic and modern architecture. The campus is an integrated part of the city center, offering a vibrant student life and excellent social meeting places. The city is beautifully located by Lake Vättern, with great opportunities for outdoor activities and a lovely sandy beach.

Jönköping University (JU), with the motto “People First,” has around 10,000 students, including hundreds of international students each year. JU also has strong experience with COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) and collaborates with institutions worldwide. The nursing program offers a dedicated semester in English, with course combinations specifically designed to support student mobility.

The nursing program stands out for its forward-looking pedagogical approach to clinical education, including the use of simulation and artificial intelligence. JU also has overlapping research interests with VID, particularly in the areas of children and the elderly. All of this provides a strong foundation for exciting and valuable collaboration among staff across institutions.
