Strategy for research
You can find VID’s strategy for the years 2018–2028 on VID’s strategy page. The strategic plan also provides guidelines for VID’s research efforts over the coming decade.
A separate research strategy for the years 2019–2023 has also been developed.
Research administration
The pro-rector for research heads a strategic, centralised administrative support unit (Division of Research Administration) which assists the academic units, research groups, individual researchers and PhD programmes at the Centre of Diaconia and Professional Practice and the Centre of Mission and Global Studies.
The Research Committee
The Research Committee at VID is a college-wide advisory body for the rector, and encompasses all academic units as well as selected divisions from the Department of Academic Support. The Research Committee is also responsible for quality assurance of the PhD programmes at VID.
Research centres
VID has four strategic research centres.
Through the Centre of Diaconia and Professional Practice and the Centre of Mission and Global Studies VID seeks to profile its full range of subject areas. In addition, the centres host our two PhD programmes in diaconia, values and professional practice and theology and religion respectively.
The Centre of Learning in Professional Education and Practice shall seek to strengthen and profile VID as an adaptive and innovative educational institution and serve as an ambitious research and development community at VID, focusing on the training programmes.
The Centre of Intercultural Communication is a research and consultancy centre with competencies in thematic areas such as migration and diversity, development cooperation and conflict management.
Research groups
VID has decided that the college’s research groups should represent the main form of organisation of the research activities. In general, the groups are interdisciplinary, thematically defined and long-term, and cover the entire range of VID’s subject areas. Each group is headed by a research group director appointed by the pro-rector for research in consultation with a relevant dean/pro-dean/ centre director.
R&D directors
R&D work and competence enhancement at the faculties are headed by the dean/pro-dean, with the R&D director as the executive director.
Time for research and development (R&D)
VID researchers have time allocated to R&D activities in accordance with special guidelines. The allocated R&D time shall be spent on ambitious, documented research and development efforts that help produce strategic knowledge associated with VID’s academic and educational areas as well as the practical areas for which the college provides training. R&D time is allocated to basic and commissioned research and to educational development projects.
Research ethics
All research at VID shall maintain a high standard in terms of awareness of the researcher’s role and compliance with norms of research ethics applicable in the research community. Separate pages provide useful information on research ethics, resources for your own research and information on the Research Ethics Committee at VID.
