About the project
The project will investigate whether and how persons with disabilities have their human rights met, with a special focus on accessibility to nature-based experiences, with Øystre Slidre municipality as a case. Further, the project will explore if and how the presence of Beitostølen Healthsports Centre (BHC) since 1970 has had an impact on this dimension of the community. Focus on the need for Assistive devices for activity will also be a central part of the study.
Organizationally and financially, the study is part of the NFR-project “ACCESSTOUR” (AT), which is led by Nordland Research Institute, and which includes other local communities and institutions. This umbrella project contributes common design and methodology, and an overarching research question and aim. This design also gives a dimension of aggregation and comparativity, even if the plan leaves great space for contextualizing of the projects of the partners. As far as the municipality of Øystre Slidre is concerned, this adaptation to specific place consists in a focus on BHC, the character of this institution, and the interaction between BHC and the local community when it comes to accessibility and adaptation to naturebased experiences for all citizens and visitors.
