About the project
In 2019, more than 1,700 women was diagnosed with gynecological cancer. The three most common forms of gynecological cancer are cancer of the uterus, ovaries and cervix. The treatment can be surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, given alone or in combination depending on the diagnosis, type of cancerous tumor and staging. Follow-up after treatment consists of routine checks for 5 years, the purpose of which is to detect signs of recurrence. Even though the women are treated from the cancer, life is changing, and the women are calling for follow-up with regard to the mental and physical challenges that arise. To meet this need, researchers have developed a digital learning and mastery program for these women. The digital learning and mastering program Gynea consists of six themes of learning, assisted by a conversation with a nurse once a week.
The overall purpose of this PhD study is to explore the lived life experiences of women who have been treated for gynecological cancer and have taken part in Gynea. The study has a qualitative design and uses a phenomenological method. Data consists of qualitative in-depth interviews with women who have completed the program. One of the sub-studies will be illustrated with quantitative data obtained from validated questionnaires.
The study consists of three sub-studies.
1. Just call if there is something: A qualitative study of women's needs for follow-up after treatment for gynecological cancer.
1.2. Experiences from taking part in a digital learning and mastering program, after treatment for gynecological cancer. What significance does such a program have in meeting a new everyday life?
2.3. Sexual health after gynecological cancer. What information and support do women need in regards of sexual challenges after treatment?
