About the project
This study will explore the relation between general and theological subjects in the deacon education, through changing historical contexts. Since the establishment of Diakonhjemmet in 1890, the learning environment, the curricula, and the overall content of the education have reflected both the needs of society and the faith-based values and aims of the institution. The curricula have combined diaconal and theological subjects with primarily health -and social subjects. To what extent and in which ways have the emphasis on respectively societal and faith-based perspectives created tensions within the education?
Documents from the Diakonia Archives at VID make up the main sources of this research project. Historical method and perspectives from educational and diaconal research will be utilized.
