About the project
In light of the growing societal awareness of the effects of anthropogenic climate change on our world, an increasing amount of attention is given to the subject of creation care by theologians and Christian churches. Many churches of different denominations and cultural backgrounds hold worship services specially dedicated to care for the environment, often related to the international ecumenical celebration known as “Season of Creation”.
While there is a great deal of literature encouraging these celebrations, as well as resources and guidelines, very little empirical work related to such practises has been done. In my project, I will collect an empirical material consisting of written liturgies and sermons from worship services dedicated to creation care in the folk-churches of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. These will then be analysed in dialogue with ecotheological literature, with an aim to answer my research question: What kind of ecotheology is expressed in liturgical celebrations for creation care in the Nordic folk churches?
