Responsible Research Evaluation
VID became signatories of Magna Charta Universitatum in November 2025, which sets out the principles of academic freedom and institutional autonomy as guiding principles for good governance and for defining the role of universities in the future.
VID signed the DORA declaration (The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment) in May 2026. DORA is a global initiative dedicated to improving research assessment practices by recommending qualitative judgments are exercised alongside appropriate quantitative indicators, as a means to ensure research is judged upon its own merits. The core of the DORA declaration is that it is the quality of research work that must be assessed, rather than the channel in which it is published.
VID is part of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment CoARA and the National Chapter of Norway (NOR-CAM), demonstrating our commitment to contribute actively and constructively to reforming research assessment. CoARA is a collective of organisations committed to reforming the methods and processes by which research, researchers, and research organisations are evaluated.
VID is committed to humanity – locally and globally. These international commitments align with our core values of being respectful, solidaristic and critically reflective, which shape our research culture and our support for researchers across disciplines and throughout all stages of their careers.
