Diplomas and qualification certificates
At VID, we issue diplomas as PDFs with a digital signature. The signature's valid as long as you do not try to make changes to the document.
When will you get your diploma?
Diplomas are issued for year groups/classes about 3 - 6 weeks after the final grade has been announced. If enquiry about grade is submitted, it can take even longer.
Diplomas for foreign students are sent by registered mail to your specified address. The correct name and address must be registed in Studentweb. Students are responsible for providing an up-to-date and accurate record of personal information to the institution.
Norwegian residents will receive digital diplomas, available in Studentweb and in Diploma Registry. A digital diploma is a diploma in PDF with a digitally secured signature. The signature is an insurance against forgery and is valid as long as the document is unaltered.
Diploma Supplement
The Diploma Supplement is an international document provided with a diploma to give a detailed description of the qualifications attained by a candidate.
All graduates from VID will automatically and free of charge receive a Diploma, and a Diploma Supplement upon graduation. The Diploma Supplement is issued in English, and provides a description of the programme of study and the degree that has been awarded to the student. The purpose of the Diploma Supplement is to create transparency in higher education and facilitate academic recognition for further studies.

Improving your grades
Students who wish to improve their grades can postpone issue of the diploma/certificate for up to one year. Application must be received by the university college within 3 weeks after the announcement of grades. If you don't use your right to postpone the issuing of your diploma, and you later on improve some of your grades included in your degree, a transcript will be issued to confirm your improvement(s).
If you improve your mark, the best mark will be printed on your degree certificate. You can ask for a deferred certificate if you wish to improve one or more marks after completing your study programme. However, please note that the certificate will display a note to say that you have improved a mark. This applies only if you improve a mark after attaining a degree, and the original mark will not be displayed on the degree certificate. If you have already received your certificate, you will receive a transcript.
Application form for reservation/deferral – pending the issue of your diploma
Do you want to postpone the issuing of your diploma? You'll find the application form here.
If you choose to postpone, it is your responsibility to order the diploma when the grades are ready. Do this by sending an email to eksamen@vid.no.
Important for nursing students: If you've completed a Bachelor of Nursing, the diploma must be in the Diploma Portal for you to apply for authorisation. By postponing, you won't be able to apply for this until you've finished improving your grades and the diploma has been issued. Read more about authorisation here.
Replacement diploma
We only issue paper diplomas once. If you lose yours, you can get a duplicate. This costs 700 NOK and must be paid in advance. We will mark the duplicate clearly. If you would like a duplicate, you can contact us via the Service Portal.
If your diploma is older and is in the archive, you can get a certified copy instead. You can also order a digital transcript of your grades for free through Studentweb.
