Buddy week at VID Bergen

Our orientation leaders, or Buddies, are ready to welcome you in the fall. They have planned a week with lots of fun activities, so you can get to know other students, VID, and the city of Bergen!

During the buddy week, you get the chance to meet new people who are in the same boat as you. It's a perfect opportunity to expand your circle of friends, experience new activities, and become part of the student environment.

The mentors, who are experienced students, have events throughout the week, giving you the opportunity to let loose and create memories for life. At the same time, it is a safe way to explore campus and learn more about student life. Our mentors are well acquainted with what it is like to be a student at VID, so they have both tips and tricks for how to handle student life.

Registration opens at the end of July.

Sober Group

This year, we're trying a new concept with a sober group. This group is a separate buddy week without the focus on alcohol.

As a participant in the sober group:

  • You don't have to deal with pressure to drink
  • You are surrounded by others who also want a safe and alcohol-free environment
  • You get to participate in all joint events organized by VID – just like everyone else
  • In addition, you get to participate in separate, alternative activities planned only for the sober group.

Sober Manager

Each day, 1 mentor from each orientation group, as well as 1 from the board, must be sober.

Why?

If something happens within the group or to others, it's good that several people are sober and help take responsibility.

  • You are more observant when sober and spot more quickly if something is not as it should be, such as harassment, pressure to drink, or bullying.
  • Safety, remember that not everyone drinks alcohol or is comfortable around alcohol.
  • You are more visible if someone needs help or is wondering about something

Each sober manager must wear a reflective vest throughout the orientation program on the day they are assigned.
