Merk!
This affects the placements for each period. This collaboration provides the foundation that fosters students' development.
The purpose of practical training periods is for students to apply their theoretical knowledge under the supervision of a nurse in a work setting, to develop nursing skills and attitudes, and to work in a goal-oriented manner to achieve learning outcomes.
- Can I find my own placement for practical training?
In general, students cannot look for their own placement. VID has collaboration agreements with several institutions that offer practical training, mainly in Oslo, Akershus and Buskerud. Some agreements are only for one academic year at a time. The number of places will therefore vary from one academic year to the next.
Students can find their own placements in public health, professional development and management. Such arrangements must be agreed with VID. Written notification of the placement must be provided well in advance of the period of practical training. Send an e-mail to sykepleiepraksis-oslo@vid.no at least six weeks before the beginning of the period of practical training.
VID covers the following geographical areas in the municipal health service: Oslo, Akershus, Bærum and Vestby municipality. VID covers the following geographical areas in the specialist health service: Oslo, Akershus and Buskerud, including the hospitals and regional health authorities.
Please note that VID cannot guarantee placements in the specialist health service (medical/surgical/mental health work) near the homes of students who live outside Oslo, Akershus and Buskerud.
We have collaboration agreements with different institutions and their services. The agreements can change from one year to the next, and sometimes from one period to the next during the academic year.
- How are the placements assigned?
They are assigned according to:
- The student's registered address for the semester.
- The principle of fairness. We look at which students have completed several long trips between their home and their placement, and prioritize them for the next period of practical training, and also whether an application for special arrangements for the practical training in terms of place of residence and placement is viable. You must submit your application at least six weeks before the beginning of the practical training. Use the application for the facilitation of practical training.
Students must inform the training coordinator at least six weeks before each period of practical training if they are permanently employed by and/or receive health services from an institution where places are offered through VID.
A preliminary placement list is published in the relevant folder of the class's itsleaning page 4–6 weeks before the beginning of the period of practical training. Students may swap placements with their fellow students within a set deadline. The training coordinator must be notified of such swaps. The final placement list will then be drawn up, and no changes will be permitted. Information about the final placement list will be published on itsleaning.
VID reserves the right to make changes to placements up to the time the final list is published. Please sent an e-mail to sykepleiepraksis-oslo@vid.no if you have any questions.
- What about travel to the institution that offers the practical training?
Students must count on travel to and from institutions where they are placed.
VID offers practical training in many fields, and placements are provided in Oslo, Akershus and Buskerud.
Students are not guaranteed a placement near their home.
VID will do its best to try to find a placement close to students' homes.
- Will travel expenses associated with the period of practical training be refunded?
In general, VID is not able to cover students' travel expenses associated with the practical training. Students whose travel expenses are not refunded are those with placements within Ruter's zone 2 in Oslo, students who live in/whose semester address is in the same municipality as the institution that offers the practical training, students who live/whose semester address is outside Oslo during the period of study and who are placed at an institution that is closer to their home than VID, and students on an exchange or elective placement elsewhere in Norway.
For information about refunding of travel expenses for students, guidelines for reimbursement of extraordinary travel and / or expenses for students in practice.
See the separate form for the Faculty of Health Studies, Oslo: Use Application for reimbursement of travel expenses for practical training at Oslo.
- Can I swap my placement?
Usually you can swap your place yourself, as long as you meet the deadline. The training coordinator must be notified in writing of any changes.
- Are absences allowed during the practical training?
More than 10% absence during the period of practical training will result in the practical training being assessed as a Fail.
If a student has been absent for more than 10% of this period, they may have an opportunity to retake it, but only if an agreement is entered into between the institution that offers practical training and VID. Students are not allowed to take on double shifts in order to compensate for their absence.
Students who participate in student council work at VID are not exempt from practical training. Such work must be deducted from the 10% absence that is allowed. More than 10% absence therefore means retaking the practical training.
- Shifts during the practical training?
Students have a rota to allow them to benefit most from the learning situations offered by the institution in question. This means day shifts, evening shifts, night shifts and weekend shifts.
For certain types of practical training, students work shifts planned by the host institution. Students have 30 hours of practical training per week. The placement time is defined as the time the student is present at the department/ward, and time spent on tutorial groups and training seminars with their fellow students and academic supervisor.
The hours must be evenly distributed across the period of practical training. Practical training cannot be shortened. In general, students must complete the period of practical training within the given time frame.
Shifts are agreed between the student and the institution that offers the practical training. VID is not able to make arrangements regarding students' working hours on behalf of the host institution. In general, students do not have to work on public holidays. See also Generelle bestemmelser for praksisstudier i sykepleie on itsleaning, in the folder Viktig informasjon om praksisstudier.
- Will I be insured during the period of practical training?
VID has collective accident insurance that also covers students on placements as part of their teaching. The insurance also covers the direct route between the home and the workplace. If you are injured during the practical training, such injury will be covered by the provisions in the National Insurance Act regarding occupational injury. See Lov om yrkesskadeforsikring (yrkesskadeforsikringsloven) (LOV-1989-06-16-65) and Lov om skadeserstatning (skadeserstatningsloven) (LOV-1969-06-13-26). The institution that hosts the student will be considered their employer.
The claim form of the institution that offers the practical training must be completed. Hand in the form to the institution's administration, and send a copy to VID Specialized University, Division for Academic and Student Affairs, PO Box 184 Vinderen, 0319 Oslo.
The melding om yrkesskade eller yrkessykdom påført under arbeid på norsk eller utenlandsk landterritorium must be completed at the institution that offers the practical training. This form must be sent to the NAV office where you live.
Injury to a patient/third party
VID has liability insurance that covers injury to patients/third parties/fellow students by its students. The insurance also covers international placements. A prerequisite for coverage of an injury is legal liability and that the work took place in accordance with applicable rules and regulations. Injury means death or illness caused by students during their work. The insurance does not cover injuries caused by infection.
Travel insurance
You are responsible for your own safety during a recognized period of study abroad. This requires taking out your own travel and accident insurance, and following the necessary vaccination programme before you leave, as well as covering these expenses yourself. You must present documentation of your travel insurance before you leave.
VID's contact person is Øyvind Holter-Nilsen.
