Master of practical theology

The programme combines a pre-eminent perspective of theology understood as living and practical, with a practice-oriented focus in which all aspects of the minister’s life may be subjected to new ideas and theological reflection.
Learning objectives
After completing the programme, the candidates are expected to:
- Have a thorough understanding of practical theology and how theology can be practised satisfactorily when confronted with a minister’s professional challenges.
- Have specialized knowledge of essential areas within the range of subjects and research areas relevant to a minister’s service.
- Be in the process of establishing a professional, comprehensive understanding.
- Be capable of independent academic reflection, methodical work and written presentation of academic material.
- Be familiar with scientific and methodical issues and have experience with conducting independent academic/scientific work.
- Be a better professional practitioner in the Church.
- Have a solid foundation for communicating the content of your profession to other professions, and to society in general.
A cooperation
The experience-based Master's Degree Programme in Practical Theology is a cooperation between VID, MF Norwegian School of Theology and The Faculty of Theology at the University of Oslo. The Practical Theological Seminary (University of Oslo) also participates as an academic affiliate.
The Norwegian Association of Clergy, a main partner, contributes with expertise and relevant practical experience in the development and implementation of courses. The degree is awarded at the institution where the candidate has accumulated the most ECTS.

Admission requirements
For å bli tatt opp på programmet må man:
- Være tildelt graden cand. theol. eller tilsvarende
- Ha minimum 2 års praksis i prestetjeneste. Fakultetet avgjør hva som er relevant praksis.
Søkere med utenlandsk utdanning må dokumentere at de oppfyller krav til norsk- og engelskkunnskaper i Forskrift om opptak til høgre utdanning (For-2017-01-06-13).
