About the lecture:
Millions of Ukrainians were forced to leave the country due to Russia’s invasion to Ukraine that started in February 24, 2022. As the warfare in Ukraine seems to develop into lingering phase, a substantial number of Ukrainian migrants will supposedly remain in the hosting countries for a long time. The further destiny of these migrants depends both on the policy of the hosting countries and the migrants’ own capability to form mutual support networks that foster adaptation to the new society, assist in overcoming disappointment, emotional and physical exhaustion, help to take rational decisions.
Up to 80% of Ukrainians declare themselves “believing in God”. The largest Ukrainian churches and religious communities (Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical) have demonstrated this capability during the current war by organizing volunteer movements and assisting in people’s evacuation from the warfare zone. Many religious centers became hubs or transfer points for Ukrainian refugees on their way to various European countries. On the other hand, increased international cooperation of religious communities involved into social projects for Ukrainian refugees show truly global character of religion in today’s world.
In her lecture, Olena will highlight some important aspects of this ongoing development.
