Patient experiences and the development of interventions (PIFO)

Patient experiences and the development of interventions (PIFO) is a research group concerned with practice-based research on the care of people in vulnerable situations. The research focuses on people experiencing acute critical or chronic injury or illness.

What are we researching?

Based on the experiences of patients, relatives and health professionals, the aim is to increase knowledge about the experience of illness and treatment, including developing interventions that can improve patients' and relatives' lives and the quality of health services offered. We conduct research on patient transitions between different levels of the health service, how to adapt life to changing health conditions, how to reduce violence, and the use of coercion. In addition, research is being conducted on health personnel's need for cultural competence in encounters with patients with immigrant backgrounds and health challenges among immigrants.
The research group has PhD students and is working to include master's students. The members use both qualitative and quantitative research methods. The interventions can be directed at patients, relatives and health personnel. Several of the researchers in the group have collaborations with national and international research networks.
