Tuition and fees

The total fee for your studies consists of a semester fee, tuition fee, and administration fee. The semester fee must be paid before you can register for the semester.

If the invoice has been paid correctly, using a customer identification number, it will take about three working days from payment until you can register for the semester on Studentweb. The semester fee must be paid by the due date on the invoice.

Erasmus+ students are exempt from paying both tuition and semester fees.

What does the semester fee cover?

Admission to a programme of study is contingent on payment of the semester fee. The semester fee is NOK 970 for students in Bergen and NOK 1010 for students in Oslo. For students in Stavanger the semester fee it is, NOK 910.

The semester fee to be paid to VID consists of two components, which are fees to:

  1. Student welfare organization
  2. Kopinor and student council

Student welfare organization

One part of the fee will go to the student welfare organization. The amount is set by the student welfare organizations and is as follows:

  • Sammen (Bergen): NOK 650
  • SiS (Stavanger): NOK 590
  • SiO (Oslo): NOK 690

All students must join a student welfare organization. If you are a student at more than one institution, you will only pay one student welfare organization fee. If you are not paying this to VID, you must present a receipt from the other institution.

Kopinor and student council

The second part of the semester fee is NOK 320. All VID students must pay this, regardless of whether they are full-time or part-time students, and whether they have paid a fee to a different student welfare organization. NOK 250 of this is a Kopinor reproduction fee and NOK 50 is the fee for the student council at the campus in question. NOK 20 is a voluntary fee to the Norwegian Students’ and Academics’ International Assistance Fund (SAIH).

What does the tuition fee cover?

VID Students also pay a tuition fee that goes towards VID’s management of the study programmes.

NB: If you are an Erasmus+ student, you pay your tuition fee to your home institution, not to VID.

Unlike state-funded educational institutions, private ones can charge tuition fees as part of their revenue base. Private educational institutions do not receive the same government grants as state-funded institutions, but all revenues from students, government grants and other sources are retained by the institution and are intended to contribute to the development of the institution, its educational programmes and research, and to benefit the students.

The tuition fee can vary depending on the study programme. For more detailed information, refer to the individual study programme's page.

Students whose studies are delayed pay a tuition fee for the nominal length of study and a separate fee for deferred exams and work placements in the semesters for which they do not pay a tuition fee. This is in addition to the semester fee.

Examples of what the tuition fee goes towards: student democracy (including remuneration for student representatives, covering the costs of the Student Parliament), different welfare initiatives in the learning environment, study materials and learning resources.

The tuition fee is subject to an annual adjustment.

Administrative fee

An administrative fee of NOK 39 will be added to all outgoing invoices from VID. If the invoice is not paid by the due date, a late fee will be incurred.

Important information about payment

VID does not grant deferment of payment.

Students who have accepted a study place and paid the fee, and who later wish to withdraw, can invoke section 21 of chapter 6 in the Cancellation Act within 14 days from the due date.

Students who apply for leave of absence during the semester will also be charged the full fee for the relevant semester. In the event of an extended study period, you must pay the minimum semester fee. Read more about leave and extended study periods here.

If you have received approval and recognition of earlier qualifications for a whole semester, you should only pay the fee for the current semester. Read more about approval and recognition of earlier qualifications here.

Invoice to third party

VID can redirect the invoice for semester and tuition fees to a third party, such as an employer, NAV, etc.

Send an email specifying your student number and the address where the invoice should be sent to studentservice@vid.no
