About the project

This project aims to investigate the dynamics of inter-religious coexistence in the west Arsi Zone of Ethiopia, specifically in three selected towns of Asasa, Kokosa and Dodola which are characterized by a rich diversity of Christian and Muslim communities. The main research question is “What sociocultural and historical factors contribute to the peaceful coexistence of Christian and Muslim communities in the West Arsi Zone, and how do these communities peacefully coexist in a contemporary Ethiopia?” By focusing on the historical roots, cultural practices and contemporary interactions that facilitate relations between Christian and Muslim communities, the research seeks to understand how diverse religious groups can coexist harmoniously, offering a lesson that may be applicable to other contexts experiencing religious diversity
