Citizenship and people in vulnerable situations (CitVul)

The purpose of the research group is to develop scientifically based knowledge about citizenship. The research is particularly aimed at people in vulnerable life situations, such as people with intellectual disabilities, people with cognitive difficulties after injury or illness, and people with dementia. The research group also works with theory development related to understanding citizenship in the face of vulnerable life situations.

What are we researching?

The research areas include research aimed at social participation and interaction in professional practice and related to volunteering and civil society: Coping with challenges in function and health, self-determination and influence in everyday life, the importance of participation in innovation, such as welfare technology and volunteering, as well as the importance of belonging to the local environment and society.

The excellent research environment Citpro Citizen's project: everyday citizenship for persons in vulnerable situations led by professors Inger Marie Lid & Ruth Bartlett is linked to our research group. The research activities included in our research group include higher education in human rights for students with developmental disabilities, research ethics and participatory research, application and development of creative methods in research, research on citizenship for people with dementia, decision support for people with developmental disabilities, narrativity and meaning-making as a resource in professional and knowledge development together with service users, their close relatives and service providers, etc.
