Faith-based actors play an increasing role in local development in the Global South - so also in Madagascar. The Use Your Talents-capacity building project represents a development from purely needs-based and rights-based development work supported by external donors, towards asset-based development, owned and driven by people in local congregations. Through this research project, the researcher wants to explore strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the UYT-approach on a local and on a systemic level, based on an empirical data collection.
The researcher wants to look into the role biblical narratives can play when it comes to the mobilization of church members in local congregations. Through interviews with members in the congregations, the personal motivation of people resulting from their faith will be discussed. This will also contribute to the discussion on the role of faith-based/faith oriented actors in local community development.
Methods applied are qualitative interviews, focus group, interviews and participants observation in one local community in two or three synods within the Malagasy Lutheran Church.
