Om prosjektet
In 2021 I received a Master degree in Theology and religious studies from VID Stavanger. My master thesis focused on Pastoral care and counseling and I am now working on my Ph.D. project in the same field, supervised by Terese Bue Kessel and Stephanie Dietrich.
The Malagasy society has recently noticed the overwhelming effects of substance addiction which has not ceased growing especially among youth in the last few years. But the Malagasy revival movement of Ankaramalaza has always been welcoming in its healing camps (toby) substance-addicted people. While several scholars have investigated this movement, their studies concentrated on mental illnesses and demon possession which are the problems suffered by patients treated there too. The central point of my project is the problem of substance addiction and with a pastoral care and counseling perspective, it aims to research the effects the Malagasy revival movement’s approach of pastoral care, which I call a “repentance-based” model of pastoral care, has on substance addiction.
