Om prosjektet

While secular treatments for substance addiction typically emphasize medical and psychotherapeutic approaches, treatment in Madagascar at the tobys rely on religious practices such as repentance and exorcism. In this project, I conducted qualitative research at tobys related to the fifohazana Ankaramalaza and analyze the materials using pastoral care and counselling perspective. The project investigates, how the practitioners and ex-patients at tobys related to Ankaramalaza experience the toby’s practices of substance addiction treatment and how they understand the interconnection between divine intervention and human agency regarding causes and recovery from substance addiction
