Committees, councils and boards
Subject Committees are collaborative bodies at the faculty level, bringing together staff and students. They advise the Dean/Deputy Dean on matters concerning the faculty's educational offerings. The committee addresses issues related to the content of the courses and the quality of the study programs, teaching, and learning environment within the faculty.

The Research Committee at VID is the Rector's advisory and executive body on matters related to research, doctoral education, development work, dissemination, and innovation.
The Research Ethics Committee is an independent and advisory body for the university college's management. The Committee's responsibilities include:
- Ensuring that research at the college is conducted within ethical research frameworks.
- Promoting awareness of research ethics issues.
- Reviewing and providing opinions or advice on individual research ethics cases based on reports of potential breaches of established research ethical standards at the college.
The Research Ethics Committee serves as VID's integrity committee.

Individual research ethics cases can be presented to the Committee by the Rector or the Dean/Deputy Dean/Centre Leader in consultation with the Rector. These cases will be handled in accordance with guidelines established by the Rector. Generally, issues should first be attempted for resolution at the leadership level or at the lowest possible level before being referred to the Research Ethics Committee. The Committee's statements should be written and include a reasoned assessment with a conclusion.
The Student Affairs Committee is the university college's highest appeal body and makes final decisions in all student-related matters. This includes appeals concerning individual decisions, appeals regarding procedural errors, cases of suspected cheating or attempts to cheat, and other matters related to exclusion from the university college.
The Student Affairs Committee will address the following matters:
- Appeals regarding procedural errors in examinations.
- Appeals related to admissions not conducted nationally.
- Other complaints from students where the issue is subject to appeal under the Administrative Act.
- Suspicions of cheating and attempts to cheat.
- Exclusion and dismissal cases.
- Comments on police certificates.
- Exclusion following a suitability assessment.
- Mandatory termination of doctoral education.
- Complaints about unapproved doctoral theses.

Meetings
The Student Affairs Committee generally meets about once a month. Continuous case processing is practiced, meaning there are no fixed document deadlines. Faculties and units are expected to address their matters without undue delay.

Procedure for Police Certificate Matters in the Units

§ 6-8 First Paragraph: If a police certificate indicates that the student has a note, the educational institution must immediately inform the student of their right to assistance under the Universities and Colleges Act § 4-9, seventh paragraph.
§ 6-8 Third Paragraph: The educational institution must send the police certificate to the Student Affairs Committee as soon as possible, and no later than ten days after all documentation regarding the case is available, in accordance with the Universities and Colleges Act § 4-9, fifth paragraph. The police certificate must be accompanied by an overview of the content and guidance in clinical instruction/practical studies and an assessment of whether the student should be excluded from these. The student must also receive a copy of the statement from the unit, along with any attachments, and be given fourteen days to respond to the Committee.
§ 6-8 Fourth Paragraph: The Student Affairs Committee must process the case as soon as possible, and no later than four weeks after receiving it from the educational institution. The student is not permitted to participate in clinical instruction or practical studies in the relevant program until the Student Affairs Committee has made a decision regarding the case.
The Learning Environment Committee (LMU) is a statutory advisory body for VID's board and management on issues related to the university's physical and psychosocial learning environment (refer to the Universities and Colleges Act § 10-1). The board has overall responsibility for the learning environment and must, in collaboration with student organizations and student welfare organizations, create conditions for a good study environment and work to improve student well-being at the institution.
The learning environment encompasses the physical learning environment, psychosocial learning environment, organizational learning environment, and digital learning environment. The university links the physical and psychosocial learning environment to areas under its jurisdiction and areas where teaching occurs under the university's auspices.
The work of the Learning Environment Committee is part of the university's systematic quality work.
Mandate
- Ensure that the provisions regarding the learning environment in the Universities and Colleges Act § 10-10 are upheld.
- Participate in planning measures related to the learning environment and monitor developments concerning students' health, safety, and well-being.
- Regularly gather documentation regarding the learning environment and actively keep the college management informed about the need for measures to improve it.
- Stay updated on complaints received by the institution regarding the learning environment and provide statements on these.
- Oversee the university's universal design and accommodations concerning students with disabilities, and propose improvement measures.
- Develop an action plan for the LMU and report annually to the board through the quality report.

Skikkethetsnemnda addresses cases related to well-founded doubts about students’ suitability for their profession. The suitable assesment aims to determine whether the student has the necessary prerequisites to practice the profession and takes place throughout the program.

The Education Committee (UU) at VID Specialized University serves as an advisory body to the Pro-Rector for Education on matters concerning education and educational quality. It also has decision-making authority in certain cases. Les mer i retningslinjer for Utdanningsutvalget.
The Education Committee typically holds 4-5 meetings per semester. A working group prepares the cases before they are discussed in the Education Committee. You can find an overview of the members and meeting dates in OpenGov.

The Doctoral Committee at VID Specialized University serves as an advisory body to the Dean/Pro-Rector for Research on matters related to each individual PhD programme.

Working Methods
The Chair of the Committee convenes the committee with at least one week's notice, typically holding one meeting per month from August to June. Three members can request the Doctoral Committee to be convened. The committee is quorate when at least half of its members are present. The Chair appoints the committee's Vice-Chair.
